Rosette Headband

Well, I decided to try something new last night. My daughter was walking around with a headband, just a plain yellow elastic headband. And I remembered this blog I read where she added cute little rosettes to her headband. I got her tutorial here So I go to dig through scrap material. I didn't have any felt, like sewhipmama did, so it's not exactly like her's but man it's so cute, and my kid really loves it. She didn't take it off. My sister agreed to model it for us.

White is so unforgiving...

Before I get to the one I finished tonight, I better put the one from last night on here. It was another same design I did last week.

Black towel vs white thread.... not fun. A deputy of mine wanted a black towel, with a "M" on the towel. He basically wanted the same exact design I had done before with the "J" Same fabric etc. This one was a toughie. I am not sure what the deal was, because I have been flying through them like crazy, but this one, I had to sew, rip seams out of the places I messed up, etc. And when it was all said and done, the velcro was crooked. I am just going to have to leave it, because I sewed the velcro on with black thread, and couldn't tell what was thread, or what was towel. Oh well, maybe she won't notice. You're your own worst critic eh? Anyhow, here it is.

Latest design

Just wanted to post the latest towels I did. I have also been playing around and adding different gadgets. I added a link to my picasa album and it has most of the sewing work I've done. Feel free to look around. Also I added an "atom" feed to my page, and it is supposed to allow you to get email updates as I blog. Hope it all works, and please please tell me if it doesn't!

OH! and I also ordered the cutest business cards ever!! :) Hopefully I will be able to post pictures of them soon!

Test

Ok, I have been experimenting with the layout, and now to try and find out if I can put a link in this blog. here are my three favorite blogs..

a really cute blog

Just wanted to show you the link to a really neat blog I just found yesterday. She has a lot of tutorials for us newbies, and really neat ideas! She gives you permission to use her stuff, so I printed out some tutorials. I'm excited to try them!!!

Just playing around

I just wanted to see if I could do this, just to say to say I can, and really I need a break from the towel wraps LOL. My fingers are sore from pulling the elastic through the towels.

And yes, I need some smaller hangers. However, I don't think that I will really make the tutu's again. They are cute, but the towels seem to by "my thing" at the moment, and I don't want to have my hand in too many pots and spread myself thin.

I do have a new idea for another towel wrap, and I'll post it Friday probably. I am going to try to do it on my days off Wednesday and Thursday

Not sure how to post a link, to show you where I got the idea, but I have to give my props to someone else, for the tutorial.

Busy, busy weekend. I had 10 orders to fill, but hey, I'm not complaining, I made $170.00! Thanks to all my wonderful friends that purchased my towels, even those of you that I don't know yet, but saw the work, and liked it and spread the word. I have several more to make, so stay tuned. Here's another picture of one I made this weekend.

My first customer!!

I am so proud to say, that one of my good friends allowed me to sew for her. She wanted two towel wraps in pink and white. They turned out really well, although my arms were very sore. I still enjoyed it, and better yet, I got paid! So I packaged up the two towels, added a thank you card and now she wants more!!! WHOO HOO!!!

I have 10 more orders to make for this weekend. So I am in for a busy weekend!! Hope my arms can handle it!! Who knows, I may have some Michelle Obama arms after this weekend HA!

Towel dresses for summer

Ok, here's my newest little idea. I've been seeing the towel wrap dresses coming out recently, and They are ridiculously high in the store. So I am going to make trendy affordable for everyone. I can do them in any color combos, and applique almost anything you want to it. For my daughter's "sample" I used the initial of her first name

I'm super proud of how they turned out, and they can only get better!!! Look forward to more pictures, and maybe I will get enough orders to make plenty more!!!

My first attempt at sewing using a pattern

Well, it's not really my first attempt. My VERY first attempt sewing using a pattern, ended in a pattern being ripped to shreds, 2 yards of fabric in scraps, a pair of scissors lodged in the wall, and approximately 12 minutes scraped off my life due to stress. Needless to say, it was not a pretty sight. Poor Hubby was just as frustrated as I was just listening to me scream, and trust me, this scene was not rated PG13.

I decided to try yet again. This time I was going to actually read the directions, and take my time on this project. I refuse to waste anymore fabric (hey, have you priced it lately??). I was going to line the dress with muslin, mainly because it's cheap and soft to the touch. I had interfacing to keep the top of it from wrinkling after washing. And of course the pattern. This was the pattern and the fabric I chose.

I cut the pattern out, and was quite confused because it is labeled in what seems like a foreign language (or seamstress lingo, same difference). So how come they only have one side of the pattern for the upper chest? this dress has two arm holes? Do I just flip the pattern and cut the fabric again? Oh, the unanswered questions. Well, my choice was to flip the pattern and cut the fabric again to make the left and right side of the top of the dress (which was wrong I later find out).

Two hours later I have all the fabric cut thanks to my wonderful husband who reluctantly helped me cut. Now to start the sewing, which is the worst part. You would think it's the easiest, but my friends, if you are learning to sew, a wise woman shopping for fabric told me "if you are learning to sew, buy a good seam ripper" Boy was she right! Even this little dress I had to sew, rip the seam, sew again, etc. But I finally got it figured out, and it turned out pretty well!!

Newbie here!

So, it's time to attempt this blog. I used to blog daily, but with the death of Myspace, and no resurrection in sight, I am going to start a new one. No blog is any fun reading if you don't feel like you know the author, so here's a little about me.

I am 28 and live in South Mississippi. I am a working wife and mother, I have a chihuahua, 2 cats, and a rabbit as pets. My daughter is 7 years old and keeps me on my toes with karate (3x a week, but we're lucky to make it to twice a week) Girl Scouts (Thank God, cookie sales are over) and 2nd grade homework (geez teachers, lighten the load on these kids!!).

My husband works full time as well and has many hobbies. He plants an organic garden, and likes to work out in the yard and we have a beautiful flower bed in the summer. He has decided that we as a family will join this "Go Green" movement. So *I* have a battery powered lawn mower *I* have been forced to use. We no longer use chemicals for cleaning, we limit our water usage (he more so than I) We eat more organic foods etc. My gas guzzling, carbon footprint leaving SUV has lost it's parking spot in the garage, to make room for bins for recycling, and his "treasures" he finds on the side of the road that was considered "trash" to someone else. Oh well, he lets me have my hobbies, I let him have his. It's all about 50/50 folks, 50/50.

I work full time (12 hour days, might I add) at our local Sheriff's office as a dispatcher. And, yes, I have some stories I could tell. Maybe you will hear some one day, in a bad day rant. I am educated, but because of the overuse of the internet (internet memes will eventually make everyone stupid), my grammar has suffered. So if you are an English major be advised, I am completely aware that I use commas too frequently and often in wrong places. I will have typo's and I guilty of run on sentences.

Now with all that being said, I enjoy doing arts and crafts, cooking, riding my bike, and bargain hunting. This blog will be a big mixture of all of this stuff. I am still wet behind the ears with sewing. But I enjoy making baby blankets, and little girl dresses for my friends. I haven't started selling any of it yet, because quite frankly, it's just not good yet. I have started making breads a lot lately, and boy is it yummy.

So with all that said, let's get this party started eh?
